Ashley Judd Sacrifices Husband for Political Career

Kentucky actress Ashley Judd announced Tuesday that she will divorce husband Dario Franchitti after 11 years of marriage.

The announcement comes in the midst of rumors that Judd may run against incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell in the 2014 Kentucky Senate race.

Citing the fact that women in politics are twice as likely to be single, divorced, or childless when compared to men, “I decided it was about time for me to split up with Dario and contribute to that statistic,” Judd said. “As a potential female candidate, I wanted to make myself as attractive to future voters as possible. I think we can all agree that Dario is really starting to bring me down.”

While the separation has been described as a mutual decision, Colonel insiders report that Judd’s IndyCar-driving husband is devastated. “Maybe we would still be together if Ashley devoted half as much time to saving our marriage as she’s devoted to evading media questions about the Senate race,” Franchitti said. He followed up the statement by saying, “I knew we should have had kids. Women with kids almost never go into politics.”

Following the divorce announcement, Franchitti tweeted “@ashleyjudd family forever.” Judd’s response? “For some reason, U.S. culture demands that women choose either family or politics. Sorry, honey— I choose politics.”
